Moral Issues of Our DayAbortion

ABORTION

On March 6, 1857 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that black people were not legal "persons" according to the U.S. Constitution.  History records this ruling as the Dred Scott decision.  Those who opposed slavery were told, "Don't impose your morality on a slave owner.  The Supreme Court has spoken.  Slavery is legal!"

Legality does not determine morality, does it?

On January 22, 1973 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that unborn humans were not legal "persons" according to the U.S. Constitution.  History records this ruling as the Roe vs. Wade decision.  A baby could be killed at the request of the mother at any time until birth.  Those who oppose abortion are told, "Don't impose your morality on the mother.  The Supreme Court has spoken.  Abortion is legal!"

 Does legality now determine morality?

Do you see anything wrong with laws that will severely punish someone for destroying the eggs of an endangered species animal (or bird) while giving full approval to destroying a human in the womb?

A human child is aborted every 21 seconds in America.  Almost every third baby conceived in America is killed by abortion.

Why?  Because it is unwanted.  ...Think about that for a while.  Similar reasoning led to a holocaust.  Now we are on the brink of historical decisions regarding the killing of our society's aged.

Manufacturing terms to soften the reality changes nothing.  To call a baby "a blob of protoplasm" may soothe the conscience of those who want to believe... but it does not change the reality of taking the life of another person.

Does society have the right to determine who is a "person" and who is not?  Do you realize that there were babies in the Bible whom God named before they were born?

There have been societies which gave parents the right to kill their infant children who were already born if they were the wrong sex.  That's not possible here, right?  Wrong.  Nobel Prize winner, Dr. James Watson, has suggested that viability ("when a baby is capable of independently living outside its mother's womb”) be recognized as "three days after birth".

This is not a political issue.  It is a moral issue.

Abortion proponents argue, "Every person should be given the right to make their own choice according to their own conscience.  Morality cannot be legislated."  That sounds good doesn't it?  It certainly is acceptable to a society addicted to personal rights.  But, if morality cannot be legislated, why have laws at all?  Do we not attempt to protect our lives and property with laws?

Who will speak for those who cannot speak for themselves?

We must speak.  We must stand for basic fundamental human rights.  We must stop the wholesale killing of our children.

I am very concerned about the moral decline of our nation and I hope you are too.
